KVN Productions has issued an official and detailed statement clarifying the sequence of events surrounding the censor delay faced by Jana Nayagan, Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film. The clarification comes amid growing speculation and confusion over the film’s sudden postponement just days before its scheduled release.
According to the production house, Jana Nayagan was formally submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on December 18, 2025, and was viewed by the Examining Committee as per standard procedure. Four days later, on December 22, KVN Productions received an official email stating that the film would be granted a U/A 16+ certificate, subject to a few modifications. Acting promptly, the team carried out all the suggested changes and resubmitted the revised version, confident that the film was cleared and ready for release.
However, despite repeated follow-ups, the certification was not issued. The situation took an unexpected turn on the evening of January 5, 2026, when the makers were informed—just days before release—that the film had been referred to the Revising Committee based on a complaint. Crucially, the identity of the complainant was not disclosed, leaving the production team with limited clarity and almost no time to respond through administrative channels.
With release plans hanging in the balance, KVN Productions approached the Hon’ble High Court. Hearings were conducted on January 6 and 7, and on the morning of January 7, the court directed the CBFC to issue a U/A 16+ certificate to the film. This ruling briefly raised hopes of a resolution. However, the relief was short-lived, as the CBFC immediately challenged the order, following which an interim stay was granted on the directive.
In its statement, KVN Productions emphasized that it had complied with every instruction and followed all due processes in good faith. The producers stressed that the last-minute developments were entirely beyond their control and expressed disappointment over the uncertainty caused despite adhering to certification norms.
The issue has sparked widespread debate within the film industry, with many questioning the lack of transparency and the timing of the complaint. For now, Jana Nayagan remains caught in a legal and procedural deadlock, leaving fans of Thalapathy Vijay eagerly awaiting clarity on the film’s release.
