Hey Balwanth: A Laugh riot ( 3/5)

Hey Balwanth, a fun entertainer starring Sushas and Shivani Nagaram as the lead pair has created interest among the audience with its promos. Directed by Gopi Atchara, the film is scheduled to hit the screens on February 20th but it has a premiers on February 19th with night shows. Let’s Review Hey Balwanth.

Synopsis:

The story of the film revolves around Krishna Balwanth (Suhas) and his father Rao Balwanth (Naresh). From childhood, Krishna dreams of becoming the heir to his father’s business. However, his father keeps the nature of that business a secret from him.

At a certain point, when Krishna discovers the shocking truth behind the business, he is left stunned. Though he tries to put an end to that socially criticized activity, political circumstances and his love life push him into a series of troubles. Whether Krishna ultimately succeeds in changing his father or not is what the director attempts to narrate in an entertaining manner.

Performances:

Senior Naresh steals the show, particularly in the latter half. His comedy timing and the way his character has been designed is neat and clean comedy.

Nellore Sudarshan’s humour lands effectively. Sudarshan’s trademark dialogues bring bursts of laughter in the theatre.

Suhas and Shivani put in convincing, impressive performances and their on screen chemistry is good.

Analysis:

The film’s main strength is the first half. The suspense surrounding the father’s secret business keeps the audience glued to their seats. The twist delivered at the interval bang works well too.

Director Gopi Achara’s attempt to blend comedy with a social issue in his very first film is commendable. If he would have maintained the same theme in the latter half, the result would have been unanimous. Had the director focused as much on the screenplay as he did on the story, the film’s result might have been different.

Technical Department:

Vivek Sagar’s music suits the situations, but the absence of instantly memorable songs is a drawback. The editing department could have done more trimming, especially in the second half.

Mahi Reddy’s cinematography effectively captures both the rural and urban atmospheres. The production values for this limited budget movie are good.

Verdict:

Altogether, Hey Balwanth is an enjoyable drama that has an ample amount of entertaining elements. Lead pair’s performance added strong support for padding artists such as Senior Naresh and Nellore Sudarshan makes the movie a happy watch during this weekend.
