Kaantha: Gripping drama with a strong performances (3/5)

Star actors Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani starrer vintage drama, Kaantha has gained good buzz with its interesting promos. Co-starring Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead, the movie is out on November 14th with early premiers on November 13th night shows. Let’s Review it.

Synopsis:

The film chronicles the mentoring relationship between a film director Samuthkani (Ayya) and his protégé actor Dulquer Salmaan (T.K. Mahadevan) in the 1950s Madras film world. How the balance between art, ego, stardom and legacy gets disrupted when a change of female‐centric in a film becomes re‐named and repurposed by the actor? What is the role of Kumari (Bhagyashri Borse) in the proceedings? How the story unfolds with unimaginable twists and turns, forms the crucial crux 

Performances:

DQ Aka Dulquer Salmaan is amazing in his role as a film star and grabs the attention with his makeover looks and screen presence in vintage getup. He gave an award winning performance in the given lead role.

Samuthkani got yet another remarkable role in which the talented actor gave his cent percent. The versatility in his acting gaves a strong impression to the scenes.

Heroine Bhagyashri Borse is undoubtedly a surprise package in the movie as she Impresses with her acting in the character which has multiple layers in it.

Last but not least, Rana Daggubati is too good in his extended cameo and leaves a strong impression through his role.

Analysis:

Director good care at the scripting stage itself which is visible on the screen. His taking is good and the way he handled multiple stars in the movie is fantastic.

On the flip side , his narration lacks the depth in the first half which could have been rectify. On the whole, he did a good job in handling vintage drama nicely and the way he handled the stars is a case study for the beginners.

Technical Department:

Cinematography by Spanish cinematographer Dani Sanchez‑Lopez is top-class. Editing by Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez is sharp and has no unwanted episodes in the film’s narration.

Music scored by Jakes Bejoy is impactful and the songs by Jhanu Chanthar are good on the screen.

Costume Designers work is visible on the screen and so is the case with Ramalingam’s Art Direction. As expected the production values for this vintage drama are superb.

Verdict:

Altogether, Kaantha is an engaging drama that is being lauded largely for its treatment. Director Selvamani Selvaraj has dealt the emotional sequences between Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani nicely.Adding to it, Bhagyashri Borse’s performance comes as surprise package for this fantasy drama making the film a watchable treat during this weekend.
