Ram weds Rambai: Real and Rustic love drama (3/5)
A small film titled,Ram Weds Rambai created good buzz among the audience with its promotional content. Directed by Saailu Kampati, the film has hit the screens on November 21,2025. Let’s Review it.
Synopsis:
This is a story set in a village in Telangana in 2010. Raju (Akhil Raj) plays in a wedding band for a living. He is deeply in love with Rambai (Tejaswi Rao), who lives in the same village. Rambai, too, falls for his love.Rambai’s father Venkanna (Chaitanya Jonnalagadda) is an eccentric man full of arrogance, ego, and stubbornness. He never listens to anyone. To hide his physical disability, he goes to great lengths. He insists that his future son-in-law must have a government job.Raju and Rambai’s love story becomes known to the entire village, eventually reaching Venkanna as well. Meanwhile, Raju and Rambai decide to run away from the village. What happens after that? What obstacles does their love story face? Did the couple manage to stand strong against Venkanna’s stubbornness and foolishness or not? That forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
In terms of performances, no one fell short. The hero and heroine looked good on screen and acted very naturally. They were able to convey all kinds of emotions effectively. Their Telangana dialect also sounded authentic. Some of the expressions given by Tejaswi Rao were especially cute. For Chaitanya, this was a challenging role, and he portrayed it quite well. However, due to shortcomings in the writing, the character didn’t receive the mileage it deserved. The hero’s friends’ batch also performed well overall. Shivaji Raja’s acting was natural and convincing, though the abrupt ending given to his character did not leave any impact.
Analysis:
The direction part is good but the problem is with when emotions fail to land in the story and the narrative starts to struggle to move forward, killing off a character abruptly is a screenplay technique. The director uses that technique in this film. It’s unclear why the hero’s father (Shivaji Raja) was written out so suddenly. Was it just to evoke sympathy or simply to place the interval card? This is a story set in 2010. To depict that time period and to convey the mindset of the youth back then, showing them desperately chasing blue films was unnecessary. There were many other ways to communicate that. Watching some scenes, it felt as if the film was implying that this is all the “eighties kids” ever did and that nothing more defined them.
Technical Department:
The technical team provided strong support, ensuring the film never felt like a small-budget movie. The background score, in particular, deserves appreciation. A couple of songs are good enough to listen to repeatedly. The camera work is neat, and the Telangana village has been captured beautifully. The Editing work is sharp. Production values for this limited budget movie are lavish.
Verdict:
Altogether, Raju weds Rambai is a rural love story that has unexpected climax portion. Though the climax 30 minutes is good the film has not so gripping proceedings till the climax making it a one time watch during this weekend.
