Rakasa: Has a few hilarious moments but not enough (3/5)

Emerging Star Sangeeth Shobhan is back with fantasy drama titled, Rakasa. Co-starring Nayan Sarika as the female lead, the movie is directed by Manasa Sharma and produced by Niharika Konidela and the film is out on April 3, 2026. Let’s Review Rakasa.

Synopsis:

Thousands of years ago, a remote village named Rakavara was cursed. As a result, for generations, the villagers have been sending a human sacrifice (one life) to a Brahma Rakshasa residing in a fort, following certain rituals and signs. This tradition continues all the way to the present day 2026.

In this modern era, how did Veerababu (Sangeeth Shobhan), who had just returned to his village from the US, get trapped in this cycle of sacrifice? Who is responsible for his situation? What happened after he entered the fort? What would befall the village if the sacrifice is not made? How did the Brahma Rakshasa come into existence in the first place? Is there a way to stop it? And in the end, how is this entire problem resolved? Did Veerababu manage to escape or not?To find out all these answers, you have to watch the film.

Performances:

Sangeeth Shobhan is decent in his boy next door character and did a convincing performance. Sangeeth Shobhan can easily be called the man of the show. With his trademark comic timing, he absolutely nailed it. Especially in the second half, the scenes between him and Vennela Kishore offer a full-on fun feast for the audience.

Heroine Nayan Sarika delivered a decent performance in her role. She appears throughout the film and showcases good acting.

Similarly, the actor who played the Brahma Rakshasa also fit the role perfectly and performed very well.

Analysis:

Rakasa got potential as a fun folk tale with horror elements. But weak writing kills the vibe. After a bland First half, second half got some moments but not enough to save the film. Not really enjoyable, missed the mark.

First half is flat, with nothing really engaging and the comedy barely working. The second half is slightly better, with Vennela Kishore generating a few laughs and some one-liners landing, but overall it still feels amateurish.

The concept had potential, but the execution is too silly. Sangeeth Shobhan tries his best to carry it, but neither the fantasy/horror elements nor the comedy fully work due to the weak screenplay.

Technical Department:

The camera work by Raju Edurolu is good as he captured the night mood shots nicely. Editing work is okay.

The music by Anudeep Dev is just okay. His composed a couple of songs in a smoothing manner but overall his music lost the touch.

The production values for this limited budget movie are good as Niharika Konidela spent more than what actually the film deserve.

Verdict:

Altogether, Rakasa is fantasy horror drama that struggles due to weak writing and execution. Weak direction and execution comes as a major minus for the film which despite a decent performances by the lead artists.
