After its release in Kannada, Su From So, directed by filmmaker JP Thuminad and produced by Raj B Shetty, is now releasing in Telugu. The film sets its story in a rural background and tries to mix light horror with humour. The movie is out on August 8,2025. Let’s Review it.
Synopsis:
Set in the quiet village of Marlur, the story revolves around Ashok (JP Thuminad), who is believed to be possessed by a ghost named Sulochana. As panic spreads, Ravanna (Shaneel Gautham) steps up to find the truth. His search leads him to Someshwara, a nearby village, unraveling the mystery behind the supposed possession. The rest of the film blends quirky villagers, moments of fear, and mild suspense in an attempt to entertain while offering a subtle commentary on societal beliefs.
Performances:
Shaneel Gautham steals the show as Ravanna, delivering a performance that’s both composed and relatable. While Ashok is positioned as the central character, it’s Ravanna who actually drives the narrative forward.
JP Thuminad, doubling up as director and actor, is adequate in his role as Ashok, though his screen time is somewhat limited. His presence in the climax brings a bit of intrigue. Supporting actors like Prakash Thuminad, Deepak Rai Paanaaje, Mime Ramadas, and Raj B. Shetty (as a Swamiji) add colour to the rural setup, with Shetty’s brief role leaving a notable impact.
Analysis:
The rural setting feels authentic and well-realized. Some of the humour, especially in the second half, lands well. Shaneel Gautham’s grounded performance holds the film together.The local flavor in characters and setting brings some charm.
The plot is thin and unfolds in a highly predictable manner. Horror elements are undercooked neither scary nor suspenseful.The comedic tone doesn’t fully translate for Telugu audiences; much of the humour feels recycled.Ashok’s character arc feels incomplete, with too much focus shifted to Ravanna. Too many side characters clutter the narrative and add little value. The pacing dips frequently, especially in the first half.
