Recently, the grand streaming platform Netflix released an animated series titled Kurukshetra. Originally made in Hindi, the series is also available in Telugu dubbed version. The first season featured 9 episodes, and now, the next 9 episodes have begun streaming. Let’s see how these new episodes have turned out in this review.

Synopsis:

Following the first 9 episodes, the story continues with the question of who becomes the commander of the Kaurava army after Dronacharya’s fall. On the other side, the fierce battles between the Pandavas and the Kaurava warriors including Duryodhana, Karna, and Ashwatthama intensify. What was the origin of this great war of Kurukshetra, and who brings it to an end? What is the significance of Bhima’s role in this phase? The episodes also delve into Lord Krishna’s teachings on the path of Dharma and the outcomes of Karma, ultimately revealing what transpired after the 18-day great war of Kurukshetra.

Performances:

As the series was made with all the Animated characters, there is nothing to mention about the real time performance. As a continuation of the first season’s 9 episodes, this next season can be described as decently made. The episodes focusing on Kunti, Karna, Dushasana, Bhima, and Ashwatthama stand out particularly well. These parts feature some good battle sequences and emotional moments.

Moreover, while the previous season focused on the pre-war circumstances and the events leading up to the battle, this season impresses with its depiction of both the war itself and the aftermath. Especially, the “Stri Parva” episode, which portrays the aftermath from the women’s perspective, will connect well with viewers who enjoy strong drama and impactful dialogues.Additionally, several scenes centered around Lord Krishna’s character, along with the grand visuals, serve as a treat for his fans once again.

Analysis:

In this new set of 9 episodes, while a few episodes are well made, the narrative pace feels quite slow at times. Although that pacing might be intentional, it may not appeal much to the general audience who enjoyed the previous season.

The Arjuna vs. Karna episodes, however, have gained a lot of hype and attention, especially since the theme has recently gone viral in popular media. One might feel that this episode could have been executed even better.Furthermore, those who already have a deep understanding of the Mahabharata or have experienced other adaptations might find this version slightly different, which could make it harder for them to fully enjoy this season.

Technical Department:

The production values of the series are quite good. The music, action sequences, and character designs all stand out well. In terms of animation, it’s evident that the team has put in a sincere effort to deliver quality work.

Director Ujaan Ganguly had already covered nearly 14 days of the war in the first 9 episodes. In this season, he tries to provide a decent continuation by showcasing how the remaining 4 days of the battle unfold across the next 9 episodes. His vision and execution are commendable, though it still feels like something is missing. However, the director’s work doesn’t disappoint too much and manages to hold the viewer’s interest reasonably well.

Verdict:

Altogether, the way this season wraps up the entire 18-day Kurukshetra war, through these remaining 9 episodes feels decently handled. Compared to the previous season, this one places more emphasis on drama rather than pure action and emotion. So, it’s better to approach it with that expectation in mind.
