Toxic’s Box Office Run Turns Disappointing Despite Record Opening in Hindi
Yash’s much-awaited action drama Toxic has witnessed a dramatic slowdown at the box office after making a record-breaking opening in the Hindi belt. Despite generating enormous pre-release buzz and opening to impressive numbers, the film has struggled to maintain momentum over the subsequent days. As a result, its overall theatrical business is now expected to fall significantly short of trade expectations.
Toxic opened strongly on Wednesday, registering an impressive ₹54 crore nett across India. The massive opening, particularly in the Hindi market, created expectations of a long and highly successful theatrical run. However, the film witnessed a sharp decline from Thursday onwards, raising concerns about its ability to sustain the momentum.
The film collected ₹24 crore nett on Thursday, followed by ₹18.50 crore on Friday. The weekend failed to deliver the kind of growth normally expected from a big-budget pan-India release. Saturday contributed approximately ₹15 crore, while Sunday stood at around ₹14 crore. The weekday trend proved even more worrying, with Monday dropping to just ₹4.50 crore and Tuesday recording approximately ₹5 crore.
With these numbers, Toxic has accumulated around ₹135 crore nett in its first seven days. While the opening-day figure remains impressive, the subsequent-day performance has prevented the film from capitalising on its strong start.
Trade expectations were considerably higher for a Yash-starrer of this scale. The film arrived with the advantage of Yash’s enormous popularity following the success of KGF: Chapter 1 and KGF: Chapter 2, along with substantial anticipation surrounding his collaboration with director Geetu Mohandas. The film was also positioned as a major pan-India event, with the Hindi market considered particularly important for its overall commercial prospects.
However, the steep drop after the opening day indicates that the film has struggled to convert its initial curiosity and fan-driven audience into sustained theatrical footfalls. Unless the film witnesses an unexpected turnaround in the coming days, its lifetime business is expected to settle somewhere around ₹150–160 crore nett in India.
Such a finish would be considerably below the expectations attached to a high-profile Yash film and its reported scale. Consequently, Toxic is currently being viewed as a FLOP in trade circles, despite its record-breaking Hindi opening.
The film’s journey serves as another reminder that a spectacular first day alone cannot guarantee a successful theatrical run. Strong word of mouth, consistent occupancy and sustained audience interest remain crucial for big-budget films to achieve their commercial targets. For Toxic, the challenge now is to limit the damage and finish its theatrical run with the strongest possible numbers.
