Makutam: Racy Actioner (3/5)
Popular hero Vishal is coming up with an actioner titled, Makutam. The film also marks as Vishal’s directional debut which has Anjali and Dushara Vijayan as the female leads. Music composed by GV Prakash, the movie is out on August 14, 2026 as Independence Day special. Let’s Review Makutam.
Story:
Makutam story majorly revolves around a honest medical representative and the happenings in his life and the reason behind them. Krupakar ( Vishal) , a honest medical representative realises his dream of having a own car. However, his holiday drive with his wife Jamuna( Dushara Vijayan) leads to shocking developments.
What are those shocking developments, how it is connected to Linga (Vishal), Annapurna (Anjali), Naga( Ajay), Jana ( John Vijay), Martin ,Lala are involved in the scene, form the rest of the proceedings.

Performances:
Vishal did a good job in the characters which has multiple dimensions. He portrays the dual role in a convincing manner.
Anjali is crazy in her mass role. Dushara Vijayan is cute in her given homely role.
Other supporting artists such as Lal, Martin, John Vijay, Ajay among others did a decent performance in the given roles.
Analysis:
Vishal as an actor is okay but as a director needs to improve. Vishal ‘s direction comes as a major defect for the film.
If not Vishal, the product would have enhanced even more. It’s high time to the contemporary heroes to focus only on the acting or else the result would be the same as this movie.
Technical Support:
The film’s music is composed by GV Prakash and he did a quiet good job. While his songs are passable on the screen, the background score is impressive. Especially, his BGM for Linga character is impactful.
The photography work by Richard M. Nathan and Abinandhan is nice as they both tired to warm up the screen with the trendy visuals. The editing by N.B Srikanth is okay but he would have focused in presenting the film in an even crisper way.
The story provided by Ravi Arasu is good. On the other hand, the Art work by Durairaj is good so as the work done by costume designer Vasuki Bhaskar. Last but not the least, the production values by reputed Super Good Films are lavish.
Verdict:
Altogether, Makutam is out and out screenplay based movie that has outstanding performance by one and only Vishal. If promoted well, the film has fare chances to mint revenues in the mass pockets. Proportionally, Makutam might emerge as a box office winner.
