Peddi: An emotional approach (3/5)

Mega Powerstar Ram Charan is back with an action sports drama titled, Peddi. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana of Uppena fame, the film also stars Bollywood heroine Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead and has hit the screens on June 4, 2026 with a paid premiers on June 3rd with the night shows. Let’s Review Peddi.

Synopsis:

Set against the backdrop of 2016, after India’s underwhelming Olympic campaign, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports launches a nationwide initiative to identify hidden sporting talent from remote corners of the country. As part of this mission, sports official Mr. Paiswal (Boman Irani) travels to Vizianagaram, where he hears intriguing stories about Peddi (Ram Charan), a humble jaggery factory worker from an unrecognized village who is known for his remarkable prowess across multiple sports.

Intrigued by the tales surrounding him, Paiswal begins to investigate Peddi’s life and soon discovers a fascinating journey shaped by determination, talent, and an unbreakable bond with his village. The film unfolds as an inspiring tale of resilience, passion, and the extraordinary rise of an unsung sporting hero.

Performances:

Mega Powerstar Ram Charan is excellent pick for the role and he portrayed it with a super ease and his struggle for the role is clearly visible on the screen. In one word, Charan has carried the entire film on his shoulders and convinced with his performance.

Especially, his emotional acting during the climax portions is terrific. Not to forget, about his dances in three songs is amazing and remains us of the vintage Megastar Chiranjeevi. The hype is real so go to the nearest screens to witness it.

Charan ‘s facial expressions along with his originally grown hair with a perfect beard are superbly fit for the role he did .

Coming to glamour quotient, Janhvi Kapoor is outstanding with her skin show but character wise, she has not much to do. Jagapati Babu is a perfect pick for his emotionally designed role. Boman Irani and Viji Chandrasekhar are okay.

Not to forget, the acting by Shiva Rajkumar is powerful but disappointing thing is that his role is limited to an extent. Divyenndu is okay but his role remains us of earlier typical Telugu movies where the badies confrontation with the hero. Shruti Haasan sizzles in one of the special songs. She is glamours in the village girl avtar in the special number.

Analysis:

The film takes off in an intriguing way but soon falls flat due to over stretched initial portions. The narration looks cliched at times. Only during the pre-Interval , the pace of the movie picks and continues till Interval on a strong note making the film a decent watch till with a good Interval portions.

The writing by neat and clean without any unwanted deviation but the issue is with Buchi Babu Sana’s scene order which turns as a medicore at times. His screenplay lacks consistency due to which the film looks dull and flat a particular portions.

Technical Support:

Background Score and the music composed by legendary AR Rahman is good. His emotional score during the climax portions bring authenticity to the proceedings.

The Cinematography by Rathnavelu is nice as he captured the rustic frames in a colourful manner.

The Editing by Navin Nooli lacks a proper punch as the film needs a trim of about 20 minutes.

The production values by Vriddhi Cinemas and IVY Entertainment are fine.

Verdict:

Altogether, Peddi is a largely entertaining emotional Sports drama that has an ample amount of fan moments in it. The unconventional climax, if it gets universal acceptance, undoubtedly Peddi has fare chances to emerge as the winner at the Indian box office for sure.
