Vanda Devullu: Emotionally charged(3/5)

Tamil music composer turned actor Vijay Antony’s latest film titled, Vanda Devullu has created a good impact with its promos. The film has Swasika in the female lead role and the film is being directed by Sasi of Bichagadu fame and is scheduled for a June 19th, 2026 release but had a premiers on June 18th with night shows. Let’s Review Vanda Devullu.

Synopsis:

The film is based on real life incidents that happened in Kandukuru town in Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh. A widow named Vasavi (Swasika) raises her both boy children single handedly by overcoming financial hurdles. Soon after growing big elder son (Bhaskar) comes up with an idea of fixing a second marriage to his mother and convinces his younger brother Vivek (Karunaas) regarding the same. Later, they both go to their mother and convey the same. Though Vasavi hesitate to the second marriage proposal, eventually she too agrees to get married again. In the process, she meets various men. What is the real twist in the tale? What is role of Vijay Antony in the proceedings? How things turn interesting during the last half, forms the crucial crux.

Performances:

Swasika is a suprise package for the film as she carried multiple emotions in her mother role effectively. She lived in the given role and established the core emotions in a convincing manner.Ajay Dhishan did a fantastic job as the elder son role. Karunaas is impressive too in his younger son role.

Lijomol Jose and Kavya Anil are cute on the screen and delivered and are attractive in roles. They are okay in the roles of Vandhana and Sandhya in the respective characters.

Last but not the least, Vijay Antony brings depth to the proceedings in the second half in his extended cameo role. Other supporting artists are okay in their given screen time.

Analysis:

Though the film completes the arc during the ending portions the scenes looks dull and diluted during first half. If the screenplay during this time would have been tighter the result would have even brighter.

The film lacks typical Telugu commercial format which might not go well to the all section of the audiences. The director would have worked on inserting those aspects in scripting stage itself to gain the momentum among the mass and youth audience.

Considering the span of the movie, Vanda Devullu should be promoted in a smarter way to reach the targeted family audience and to have a smooth run at the box office.

Technical Support:

Music composed by Balaji Sriram is emotional hard-hitting as his situational songs which comes at an appropriate time enhance the movie. Coming to Background Score, he did a commanding job as the BGM only explore the scenes.

The cinematography work by S. B. Darshan Kirlosh is nice as he captured the natural rural areas in a lovable way. Harish Yuvaraj ‘s editing work is neatly handedly as the film’s runtime is kept within limits and has no unwanted scenes.

The production values for this limited budget movie by Sarvanth Ram Creations and Fatima Vijay Antony cooperation are perfect for the film’s theme.

Verdict:

Altogether, Vanda Devullu is an emotionally charged family drama that will impress the targeted family audience. The story and the direction by Sasi along with the natural performances by the lead artists makes the film a satisfying watch during this weekend.
