Starring Kollywood actor Soori and Tollywood actor Suhas in the lead roles, a boating sports drama titled, Mandaadi is releasing on Telugu and Tamil simultaneously on September 10, 2026. Directed by Pugazhendhi Mathimaran, the film also has Mahima Nambiar and Sathyaraj in the key roles. Let’s Review Mandaadi now.
Synopsis:
Set against the backdrop of boat races among the fishing communities of Kalingapatnam, a coastal region, the story revolves around the power struggle between two men. Satta Puli (Suhas) dominates the area and eliminates anyone who comes in the way of his business interests. He also hatches a conspiracy to ensure that only his men participate in the boat races, preventing any other team from his village from entering the competition.Following a series of dramatic developments, Muthukali (Soori) steps into the picture to put an end to Satta Puli’s dominance. Despite having no prior experience in boat racing, Muthukali selects a group of inexperienced youngsters, trains them, and enters the competition with them. He takes up the responsibility of leading the team and helping them emerge victorious.Who will ultimately win the boat race? What happened between Satta Puli and Muthukali in the past? Why did the two men become bitter enemies? What is the relationship between Muthukali and Angel (Mahima Nambiar)? And what challenges does Muthukali face in his quest to achieve what he has set out to accomplish? The answers to these questions form the rest of the story.
Performances:
Soori as an reached next level, the actor’s hard work after Viduthalai, calling Mandaadi a testament to his efforts. The action blocks were described as highly convincing and impactful. The viewer further lauded Soori, who earned his recognition as a comedian, for successfully reinventing himself and establishing himself as a perfect action hero.
The film unfolds as an emotional action drama. Soori impresses as Muthukali with his mature performance and does complete justice to the character. His performance, particularly in a few emotional and action sequences, stands out as a special attraction. Suhas also delivers a strong performance and brings a sense of freshness to his action scenes. He performs his role convincingly.
Mahima Nambiar, who plays another key character, also delivers a very good performance. Veteran actor Sathyaraj lives up to his role, and the depth in his character is particularly impressive. Along with Ravindra Vijay, the other actors in important roles also make an impact with their performances.
Analysis:
Although a few key sequences in Mandaadi are engaging, the concept written by director Mathimaaran Pugazhendhi, along with certain action sequences and the interval block, works well. However, the film is let down by its slow narration in a few places and the inclusion of some routine elements.
To summarise , Mathimaaran Pugazhendhi starts the film on an interesting note, but later diverts the narrative with some unnecessary scenes before bringing it back on track and ending the film on an emotional note.
Technical Support:
Coming to technical support, although the director chose a strong premise, the script is not equally strong in certain places.
The music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar is good. Cinematographer S. R. Kathir has captured all the visuals in the film beautifully. While the editing is good, trimming some of the lengthy scenes in the second half would have helped. The production values maintained throughout the film are also very good.
Verdict:
Altogether, Mandaadi is a watchable fisherman story that has Boat Racing sport as the key element.The film manages to engage the audience with a story involving the dangers of the sea, a fierce battle for dominance, the hidden threats lurking beneath the endless ocean, and the struggles between Muthukali and Satta Puli for supremacy, all set against a backdrop of revenge and rivalry. The director’s handling of the emotional sequences is also impressive.
